Comings and goings II: Goodbye jake, Hello LibraryFind

The jake site at Yale is now closed. The project is officially over.

On a brighter note, LibraryFind is now available. The project is officially open.

Comings (oss4lib) and goings (jake)

If you've missed regular postings at oss4lib.org since they slowed down to a near-trickle a few years back, fire up your feedreader. There's never been a better time to highlight the latest and greatest in free/libre/open source systems for libraries, so I'm going to get back to doing so more regularly.

Separately, the jake project is an example of a coulda-been, shoulda-been thing that never-quite-did. I've kept it running for six years past its prime because it's still filling an unmet need (and, heck, it's still more popular than Donnie Darko). It's too far out of date, though, and its backend code too ancient, now, and there's neither funding nor time for me to keep it going. As posted on the project list and on the site several weeks ago, I'll be shutting down the remaining jake server at Yale at the end of this month.

The jake data was freely available for many, many years (and, I've been told, found its way into numerous projects and products) and an old copy is still available at sourceforge. After January 31, the project will be fully decommissioned.
